As we prepare for #BackToSchool season, we are #LauderdaleProud of our dedicated educators who have returned to Lauderdale County to educate and serve. Meet HES teacher, Kari King! Kari Escue King graduated from Halls High School in 2004. She continued her education at Union University, earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Education and her Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership. Kari is currently a 2nd Grade teacher at Halls Elementary School. When asked about her favorite part of teaching, she said, “I love getting to watch children learn and grow each day. It is rewarding to know that I am able to impact the future by teaching and loving my students throughout the year.” We are #LauderdaleProud of Kari’s dedication to our students and community!

As we prepare for #BackToSchool season, we are #LauderdaleProud of our dedicated educators who have returned to Lauderdale County to educate and serve. Meet RES Teacher, Megan Emerson! Megan Robison Emerson graduated from Halls High School in 2006. She has continued her education at multiple institutions, earning her associate’s degree from Dyersburg State Community College and her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Tennessee at Martin. Megan has also certificates from Trevecca Nazarene University (Special Education Interventionist, K-8) and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville (Special Education Interventionist, 8-12). Megan currently teaches 4th Grade Inclusion at Ripley Elementary School, where she was recently named the 2023 Teacher of the Year. Her favorite part of being an educator is supporting struggling students and watching them learn and grow. We are #LauderdaleProud of Megan’s dedication to our students and community!

As we prepare for #BackToSchool season, we are #LauderdaleProud of our dedicated educators who have returned to Lauderdale County to educate and serve. Meet our #doublefeature teachers, Anita and Rebecca Medford! Anita (Shands) Medford (‘91) and Rebecca Medford (‘16) both serve as teachers at Ripley Elementary School. After graduating from Ripley High School, both mother and daughter continued their education at Dyersburg State Community College and the University of Tennessee at Martin. Anita has also earned her Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University. Anita teaches 4th Grade English-Language Arts after serving as a private school educator for 11 years. She has served in many leadership and support roles including being a teacher mentor and lead teacher, as well as a tutor for the ALLCorp and Project LEAD tutoring programs. Anita was also named Teacher of the Year for RES during the 2021-2022 school year. Of her career, she said that she absolutely loves to teach, especially Reading as it is one of her greatest passions. Rebecca teaches 5th Science and Social Studies. She said that her favorite part of her career is working with friends and former teachers while helping students learn and grow. We are #LauderdaleProud of Anita and Rebecca’s dedication to our students and community!

Rooms shows class specific announcements and classroom behavior, and allows for direct messages to be sent between families and teachers. Rooms fully integrates into our district app so there is one app for everything. Rooms access invites will be sent in early August via email. The Free Meals for Kids program will occur every Saturday through July 29th with pickup locations available in Halls and Ripley. This weekly program, sponsored by the YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South, provides 7-day meal bags for breakfast and lunch to anyone with children under the age of 18.

Our next #LauderdaleProud feature is Michelle Miller Tillman! Michelle Tillman graduated from Ripley High School in 1989. She continued her education at Lambuth University, earning a Bachelor of Music degree. She later attended Union University and received her Master of Education and Education Specialist degrees. Michelle has served in public education for 28 years. She began her career as a choral educator and later transitioned in administration, serving as Principal of Haywood Middle School for 5 years. She has recently been named Principal of Haywood High School for the 2023-24 school year. When asked about her favorite part of her career, Michelle said she enjoys helping students grow and develop into productive citizens and community members. Michelle is another reason we are #LauderdaleProud!

He continued his education at Bethel University, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. Rodney is currently a State Trooper with the Tennessee Highway Patrol. He said that protecting and serving the citizens of Tennessee is his favorite part of his career. Rodney is another reason we are #LauderdaleProud!

Our next #LauderdaleProud feature is Madison Johnson! Madison Johnson graduated from Halls High School in 2018. She continued her education at Jackson State Community College, earning her Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant degree. Madison is currently a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. When asked about her favorite part of her career, Madison said: “As a COTA working in my current employment setting, I am able to work with all ages of the lifespan. The goal of occupational therapy is to increase independence in meaningful activities throughout one’s life, whether that is helping babies gain strength to roll, sit, and stand unassisted or help an individual gain hand strength back after an injury. The options are quite endless as occupational therapy practitioners help bring meaning back into one’s life!” Madison is another reason we are #LauderdaleProud!

Our next #LauderdaleProud feature is James Scott Nelson! A 1992 Ripley High School graduate, Scott Nelson continued his education at The University of Memphis’ Herff College of Engineering with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He has also completed his Professional Engineering exam and Water Treatment State License exam. Scott currently works as the Utility Superintendent for Ripley Gas and Water. When asked what his favorite part of his career is, Scott mentioned that he foremost enjoys working with a great team to solve utility problems to positively benefit the citizens of Ripley. CaShonna currently works as a Senior Client Finance Analyst.
