LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

TN Governor's Schools--Students can explore major fields of interest through the Governor's Schools during the summer after their 10th or 11th grade year. Application deadlines vary by schools. The descriptions, applications, and deadlines can be found at http://tn.gov/education/govschools/

Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) is the nation's foremost youth leadership development organization. A 10th grade student is nominated to attend the spring event.

The RHS guidance office has two full-time counselors and a graduation coach to help students in personal, academic, and career issues. Students can make appointments or just drop-in as needed. Parents/families/guardians are welcome to contact us with any concerns they have for their student, even if that concern is not necessarily school related. Make sure to check the calendar regularly for important dates that pertain to juniors and seniors specifically in preparing for graduation, as well as underclassmen testing information.

TEST DATES

ASVAB- This test that is required to enter any military branch will be given during the school day at Ripley High School. The ASVAB will be given towards the end of the fall semester. Students must sign up with ROTC instructors or guidance.

EOC exams will now be TNReady tests. There are two parts to each test and these will be spread over two testing windows in the fall and in the spring. Fall test dates can be viewed in the RHS Calendar.

ACT - The ACT State test for Juniors will be spring 2019.

Dual Enrollment:
Numerous opportunities through partnerships with Dyersburg State Community College, UT Martin-Ripley, Bethel University, Union University, and Tennessee College of Applied Technology. Students must have the required GPA and ACT to participate.

EPSO’s provide students with the opportunity to earn college credit while in high school, develop the confidence and skills necessary for success in postsecondary, make informed postsecondary and career decisions, and decrease the time and cost of completing a certificate or degree. Ready Graduate - As proposed in Tennessee’s ESSA state plan, a Ready Graduate must meet one of the following criteria:

  • score a 21 or higher on the ACT; OR-complete four early postsecondary opportunities (EPSOs); OR-complete two EPSOs + earn an industry certification; OR

  • complete 2 EPSOs +score a designated score TBD on the Armed Services Vocational

Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) Armed Forces Qualifying Test (AFQT)
The State of Tennessee defines these four “checks” for evidence that graduates have demonstrated postsecondary and workforce readiness.
