This week RMS engineers used the Engineering Design Process in STEM class to look at World Hunger. Students brainstormed how to deliver Food Aid during wartime and they made prototype parachutes to air-drop commodities such as rice and beans to Gaza. We tested our designs and made modifications.

Mr Wiggin’s ELA classes created character “basketball” cards for the main characters of the Crossover. Students then participated in a Gallery walk choosing quotes from the cards. Then students explained the significance of the quotes for that character.

Important Announcement: Cell Phone Policy Changes For Ripley Middle School Effective 2025-2026 School Year

This summer, a bill restricting the use of cell phones in Tennessee schools was signed into law by Governor Bill Lee. RMS believes that a cell phone-free instructional environment will not only allow students to focus on their academics but also encourage appropriate social interactions and decrease bullying. Please see the information below for the new procedures and speak to your students about these changes. We thank you for being a valued partner in your student's education!

The last couple of weeks of school, students in computer science class experimented with circuit building kits to practice hands on what they studied in class. Students worked hard - we could tell by all the alarms, buzzers, radio signals and music going off at once when they added the last component to their circuit!

STEM Camp students smashed up strawberries and made their own DNA extraction solution. After adding rubbing alcohol to their filtered solution, they carefully extracted the DNA. Summer Learning Camp and the STEM Camp made models of DNA using four colors of candy or marshmallows and Twizzlers. With a careful twist we created the double helix. Both groups also made Lava Lamps to take home.
