More STEM fun! STEM Camp and Summer Learning Camp learned about electronics using Snap On Circuit kits. They built musical doorbells, AM radios and FM radios to name a few. We learned about electronic components and their symbols found on Schematic Diagrams, and the parts of a simple electrical circuit. We even built our own battery out of copper and zinc washers.
STEM camp and Summer Learning Camp students did Paper Chromatography experiments to learn about separating a mixture of inks and dyes. We learned about light and color, and synthetic vs natural dyes. STEM Camp students learned about artist Dale Chihuly and his glass sculptures known as Macchia bowls. We used coffee filters and spray starch to create our very own paper version and added tea lights in the center to take home. Our RMS scientists and engineers worked hard this month!
Oh what fun we had in STEM Camp this week! Summer Learning Camp and Stem Camp students learned about sound while building Glove a Phones. They also built hovercraft and learned about reducing friction to improve performance of vehicles. STEM Camp identified and studied fruit and vegetable plants growing in our RMS Garden. Students planted flowers and took home their own spider plant. We watched what happened to shaving cream in the vacuum pump and did friction experiments. We built parachutes and several designs of gliders using all sorts of materials, and best of all we launched Alka-Seltzer powered rockets in the cafeteria.

If your child is entering 7th grade, they are required to receive a TDAP booster and provide a current Certificate of Immunization before the first day of school on August 5th, 2025.
Please make sure to bring your child’s updated Certificate of Immunization to their school and submit to the school nurse.

8th grade students have been busy preparing for their future! They toured Dyersburg State in Covington last week and Dyersburg State in Dyersburg on Monday.
Ripley Middle School students participated in a college and career fair in the RMS gym today. They learned ALOT and even got rewarded with a sweet treat!
