Dear Families and Staff,

The Lauderdale County School District is aware of a reported incident involving a staff member and a child at Ripley Primary School.

The district is following its established policies and procedures in response to the report, including notifying the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services and local law enforcement. An active investigation is ongoing.

Please know that the district does not condone the type of behavior described in the report. We work diligently to train our staff in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Nonviolent Crisis Intervention practices to support safe, respectful, and appropriate responses when working with students.

Because this is a personnel matter, we cannot share further details. However, please know that we take this situation very seriously.

We encourage students, families, and staff members to report any safety concerns promptly to a teacher or staff member or, when appropriate, local law enforcement. Speaking up when something does not seem right is an important part of maintaining a safe school environment.

The safety and security of the students of Lauderdale County is always our number one priority.

Thank you for your attention to this important update.

Sincerely,

Selina Sparkman

Superintendent
