Lauderdale County Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Tonia Beard as the new Principal of the Alternative Learning Academy. A Ripley High School graduate and current Lauderdale County resident, Beard brings both a strong educational background and a deep connection to the community she will serve. In this role, she will work to support student achievement, strengthen instructional practices, and foster positive relationships among students, staff, families, and the community. Her leadership will focus on creating a structured, supportive learning environment where all students can succeed and grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Beard brings more than 20 years of experience in education, beginning her career in 1999. Throughout her career, she has taught 6th and 7th grade English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies, while also serving in leadership roles including 6th Grade Lead and ELA Grade Chair. Most recently, she served as Assistant Principal at Covington Middle School, where she also served as Building Testing Coordinator and Curriculum Lead for English Language Arts and Social Studies.

Throughout her career, Beard has demonstrated a strong commitment to instructional growth, school improvement, mentorship, and student development. She has helped implement teacher mentor programs and student-focused mentoring initiatives designed to support and empower students while strengthening connections between the school and community. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University.

Beard is passionate about leading with purpose, service, and high expectations for every child. She believes in building collaborative relationships, supporting both students and educators, and creating opportunities that help all learners reach their full potential.Tonia Beard
