Snow and Ice

Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, and Community Members,

Lauderdale County Schools is closely monitoring weather forecasts that indicate the potential for severe winter weather, including snow, to impact our area next week.

At this time, no official decision has been made regarding school closures or schedule changes. However, the safety of our students, staff, and families is always our top priority. District administrators are continuously reviewing updated forecasts and will work closely with local emergency management and transportation officials to assess road conditions and overall safety.

If weather conditions warrant, school may be canceled or delayed, and families will be notified as early as possible through official district communication channels, including phone calls, text alerts, social media, and our website.

We strongly encourage parents and guardians to begin making backup plans now in the event schools are closed. This may include arranging childcare, transportation alternatives, or work-from-home options if needed.

As we approach the possibility of winter weather, families are encouraged to:

            Monitor local weather forecasts regularly

Ensure students have appropriate cold-weather clothing

Check that vehicles are winter-ready and fueled

Keep emergency supplies at home, such as food, water, medications, and flashlights

Avoid unnecessary travel during hazardous conditions

Current forecasts suggest that a winter storm system could bring snow and potentially hazardous travel conditions to Lauderdale County. While forecast details may change, we want families to be prepared and informed.

Please know that no action is required at this time, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation as we continue to monitor the situation. Additional updates will be shared as more information becomes available.

Thank you for your continued support of Lauderdale County Schools and for helping us keep our students safe.

Sincerely,

Selina Sparkman

Director of Schools
