This is a message to keep you informed of the district’s efforts to maintain safe and drug free schools. With coordination from the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department, both Ripley and Halls High Schools were on lockdown this morning due to a scheduled visit from various agencies who specialize in K-9 drug searches. This is part of a concerted effort, in partnership with the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department, to provide safe and drug free schools.

Parents & Guardians, This message is a follow up to communications that went out earlier today on the school district’s social media. Earlier today, an anonymous 911 call came in to Lauderdale County dispatch indicating there was a threat to one of the Ripley schools. There was no specific information on where the threat was targeted, but all school SROs went on high alert.  As a result, all county schools went on a temporary lock down while law enforcement investigated the source of the call. Additional officers were quickly sent to each school throughout the county as a precaution and the Sheriff’s Department worked quickly to get a location on the source of the call.  A juvenile, not associated with Lauderdale Co. Schools, was quickly located and determined to be the source of the hoax and was charged accordingly.  The lockdown was lifted after only a few minutes and schools resumed normal operations.  We are thankful that this issue was resolved quickly and efficiently through the work of the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department and other local agencies.
