On Friday, March 25, the Tennessee Department of Education named Lauderdale County Schools as a Reading 360 District. This distinction recognizes that LCS is committed to teacher training, leader support networks, and focused work on early literacy. Dr. Jennifer Jordan, TDOE Assistant Commissioner of Special Education and Intervention Programs, and Ms. Yvette Blue, TDOE Senior Director of Learning Acceleration, shared information regarding the Reading 360 initiative. Dr. Jordan and Ms. Blue, along with Representative Chris Hurt, presented LCS with the distinction banner during the Chamber of Commerce’s “Business over Breakfast” event. Following the recognition ceremony, Dr. Jordan, Ms. Blue, and Riley the Reading Raccoon, TDOE’s Reading 360 mascot, visited literacy classrooms to encourage students.

Ms. LaTonya Jackson, Director of Secondary and Career Technical Education, provided attendees with an update on the expanding opportunities occurring in Grades 9-12. LCS offers 22 programs of study and 24 industry certification programs for students to pursue. In addition to the career-technical offerings, LCS offers early postsecondary opportunities through Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrollment (DE), and Statewide Dual Credit (SDC) courses. In Fall 2022, LCS will offer the LCS Middle College and Lauderdale County Career Academy programs, both in partnership with Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC).
