attention please

Lauderdale County Schools will remain on the hybrid even/odd schedule through at least November 6.  This decision will be reviewed monthly and an announcement about future plans will be made on November 6.  While COVID cases have remained relatively low in schools, the district continues to focus on behaviors that lower the risk of transmission of the virus.  These efforts are the reason for relatively low numbers that have allowed schools to stay open.  As schools continue Phase B (even/odd day) operation, please note that these measures are in place to limit the spread of COVID among staff, students, and the community as a whole.

With the Fall and Winter months ahead, flu season is beginning and according to healthcare officials COVID will also see a significant rise within our communities and schools.  The first priority considered in all decisions about school operation during this pandemic has been centered on the safety of all stakeholders; students, staff, families, and members of the community.

  • Some important information to know as we head into the Fall & Winter months:
    • Projections show that COVID numbers will increase significantly in the weeks ahead.
    • At the current date, Lauderdale County ranks in the top 30 out of 95 counties for both new cases per 100k residents and test positivity rate for a 7 day average.  Both of these figures are considered in the high range for community spread.
    • When schools are at full capacity, social distancing in the classroom and other common areas is not possible; increasing the chance of rapid virus spread and mass quarantines.
    • Wearing masks and social distancing are two of the most important factors in mitigating the risk of COVID.
  • As we enter the 2nd grading period, schools will continue to work toward:
    • implementing and refining learning for students when they are not present at school
    • promoting behaviors that reduce the spread of COVID in school environments
    • maintaining healthy environments for students and employees
    • maintaining healthy operations at all levels
    • tracking and reacting appropriately to relevant data resulting from the pandemic

There is no room for complacency when it comes to the safety of our students and staff.  The best way to slow the spread is to continue with the procedures outlined in the district’s operations plan for face coverings and social distancing. We all play an important role in promoting and maintaining safe environments. We appreciate your efforts to accommodate necessary procedures during this lingering global pandemic. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
