The Tennessee Department of Human Services announced financial assistance is available for families who qualify for free or reduced school lunches, through the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) program. Parents who already receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits currently, do not need to apply. The funds began arriving on the EBT card they already use beginning June 12. Parents who do not receive SNAP benefits, but whose children do qualify for free or reduced school meals, will need to apply for P- EBT online https://tdhs.service-now.com/. The application period has been extended through July 13, 2020. Individuals who need assistance completing their P-EBT application or have general questions about the program are encouraged to call the TDHS hotline at 1-833-496-0661 and select option 3.

Due to the current state of emergency related to COVID-19 the Tennessee Higher Education Commission/Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (THEC/TSAC) has made the decision to waive the April 1 community service requirement. A Tennessee Promise student enrolling at an eligible institution for the summer term will not be required to complete and submit community service to maintain eligibility for that term. Furthermore THEC/TSAC continues to monitor the impact from COVID-19 related to the July 1, 2020 community service deadline while our partnering organizations work to arrange alternatives for students. Lauderdale AWARE hosted their biannual Culture and Compassion Retreat this weekend at Lakeshore Camp in Eva, TN. Students from both Ripley and Halls discussed how to overcome prejudice, stereotypes, discrimination, and negative labels through showing compassion, vulnerability, and establishing genuine relationships. Lauderdale County students described the experience as transformational and healing.

Students in Ms Beavers’ class learned how the muscles work and how biomedical engineers can help keep the muscular system healthy. They then created their own medical devices to aide in the recovery of a strained bicep. Students were all given the same materials to work with and their devices were tested on force applied and distance applied.

Interested in a career in Early Childhood Education? TECTA is offering - Orientation class scheduled for the summer. The RHS Concert Band held its Spring Concert on Monday, April 29th which featured an original composition, “Chorale and Chaccone,” by student Hayden Elrafei. Elrafei is a student in the Music Theory class and enjoys exploring what he can redefine in this study of theory and composition. He plans to continue composition for the remainder of his high school career, and plans on majoring in Music Theory in college.
If your senior has not ordered their cap and gown they must be ordered this week in order for them to guarantee arrival by graduation.
Congratulations to RHS Student Jonathon on being awarded 1st place in The Congressional Art Contest. This is a contest between all of the counties within the 8th district with a first place winner for each county and each award presented by the congressman David Kustoff.
Ripley High School will hold a college and career fair Tuesday April 16 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Representatives from area colleges, local jobs, the State Education Department, and American Job Center will be present. Parents and students are invited.

Both students currently have industry certification that they have earned in high school. Jacob plans to attend TCAT-Ripley on graduation and Nitoria will pursue a career in Early Childhood at DSCC. Do our phones create too much distraction? In Mrs. Parmenter's Senior Chemistry 2 class students were asked to turn on their notifications and turn up the volume on their phones. They made a mark every time They were interrupted. Mrs. Parmenter wanted to demonstrate how many times they are interrupted by their cellular devices. This was the result of 13 students and one teacher in one class period.

The Lauderdale County Exchange Club held it's bi-monthly meeting Jan. 17 at the Carl Perkins Center. RHS Students, Jamari and Cara were named Students of the Month. Jamari plans to play basketball in college and eventually become an athletic trainer. Cara plans to attend Jackson State to play softball and eventually become a sports medicine physician assistant.

The Fort Prudhomme Chapter, NSDAR, honored the nominees for Daughters of the American Revolution's Good Citizen Award. Students from Halls High School and Ripley High School were treated to lunch and were presented certificates in recognition of their qualities of Dependability, Leadership, Service, and Patriotism. Students enrolled in DE TCAT courses toured Marvin Windows and Doors today. Those on the tour watched a presentation about Marvin Windows and what traits are looked for in employees. They also toured the facilities to see what takes place day to day.

Ripley High School students in Ms. Reed’s class, Latareia and Nitoria, were invited to attend UT Martin’s Red Carpet Skyhawk Overnight Visit this past weekend. UT Martin offers this unique experience for a select group of multicultural high school seniors and juniors from the Memphis area. These two got to experience life as a UTM student by staying in our residence halls while learning about our academic programs, scholarships, financial aid, and student life.

Class of 2019: College App Week - The library is open until 6:30 tonight for anyone that needs to use our computer labs to apply to college.
Lauderdale County Health Department and Lauderdale County School System have partnered to provide seasonal influenza (flu) vaccinations at your child’s school. If your child is uninsured, there is no cost to you for the flu vaccine. If your child is covered by insurance including TennCare and private insurance, the Health Department will file a claim with the insurance plan and receive reimbursement directly from the insurance plan. There is no out of pocket cost to you for the flu vaccines provided during this school flu vaccination clinic. Your child will be bringing home a consent form beginning of this week, if you want your child to receive the flu vaccine please complete both sides. Be sure to sign the form, this will be your consent for the student to receive the vaccination.
