remote

Families who enrolled in the district's Remote Learning Program recently received a guide with more information on how the program will work. The full Remote Learning guide may be downloaded by clicking the following link: https://5il.co/j0ot.  Enrollment for remote learning ended on July 23 and families who are enrolled have until noon on Friday, August 7, to contact their school to make any enrollment changes.  Students who are enrolled in remote learning will remain enrolled until at least the end of the first nine weeks grading period.

Please note that the goal is to start the remote learning program on or before August 17. We are asking families to be patient as the program details and products are still in development and we may not reach full implementation of the online platform for several weeks. Schools and district administrators will continue to provide families with more information as it is available.

In order to participate in the full-time remote learning option, students will need access to a technology device during regular school hours.  Lauderdale County Schools has prioritized the purchase of devices through the recent availability of federal and state funding to support schools during the COVID-19 pandemic; however, due to increased demand, the district’s first order of devices may not be available for students to check-out from their school until approximately September 8th.  A second order of devices has been placed but are not scheduled for delivery until early September and may not be fully available for check-out until October.  More specific information about device availability will be provided at a later date once vendors finalize their shipment dates.

Although devices may not be available until later, all online resources, lessons, and curriculum platforms will begin to be rolled out during the months of August & September.  Schools are planning for parent/student orientation, teacher training, and implementation of the various online, instructional tools.  Please remember that these online tools are currently being built and finalized by vendors and it may take several weeks to reach full implementation.

Families must also provide reliable and consistent internet connectivity in order to participate in remote learning. At this time, Lauderdale County Schools does not have the ability to provide resources for internet connectivity to all families. Families in need of internet access can find more information on discounted internet rates here.  For students who do not have internet at home, schools will be working to provide lesson content on thumb drives and through hard copies of lesson materials. More information will be provided during orientation sessions which will be scheduled for late August and early September.

In addition, high-speed internet access, at 12Mb/s or higher for download and 3Mb/s rate or higher for upload, is strongly recommended to ensure that students are able to access live instructional sessions and watch pre-recorded lessons. Families may test the speed of their internet access here.

To participate in remote learning, students and families must sign and agree to the districts acceptable use policies for students and families outlining device, email, and internet usage. This will take place during the required remote learning orientation. Please watch for emails or phone calls from Lauderdale County Schools regarding upcoming plans for remote learning.

Thank you!
