College Preparation Plan
Grade 9
- Investigate career information in areas that interest you.
- Start developing your resume: keep a scrapbook of your achievements which you could include articles about yourself.
- Discuss interests and post-secondary education possibilities with your parents.
- Meet and talk with your school counselor about yourself and the future. Take your parents with you.
- Find out about summer jobs and try to gain the skills you would need to obtain one. Look into volunteer activities that will expand your experience and skills.
Grade 10
- Begin to look at college catalogs and other college material including financial aid information.
- Take the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) and/or the PLAN (Preliminary ACT) in October to practice taking college entrance exams.
- See your counselor about assessment materials. There are many inventories available that can help you establish your career goals.
- Make certain that your high school course selections are appropriate for your college/career interests.
