College Preparation Plan

Grade 9

Investigate career information in areas that interest you.
Start developing your resume: keep a scrapbook of your achievements which you could include articles about yourself.
Discuss interests and post-secondary education possibilities with your parents.
Meet and talk with your school counselor about yourself and the future. Take your parents with you.
Find out about summer jobs and try to gain the skills you would need to obtain one. Look into volunteer activities that will expand your experience and skills.

Grade 10

Begin to look at college catalogs and other college material including financial aid information.
Take the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) and/or the PLAN (Preliminary ACT) in October to practice taking college entrance exams.
See your counselor about assessment materials. There are many inventories available that can help you establish your career goals.
Make certain that your high school course selections are appropriate for your college/career interests.
