Understanding Beta Standings
Beta standings for the
fall semester of '07 & '08 have been posted. Here
is how the standings are determined using the Beta average.
Core academic, college preparatory classes are
counted for the Beta average.
That means all science, math, and English classes are counted. In addition
to these courses, any specific course that is required for graduation is
counted.
If a Beta student's average has fallen below 90, we have included the highest
non Beta-average grade. In these cases art, athletics and professional studies
have been included.
Please realize that the Beta average is not
the same as your GPA. A student
who has been able to average in a very high non core academic course in order
to maintain their Beta membership may end up with a higher Beta average than
a student who did not require the same kind of help. The Beta average is
only to determine a student's status in Beta, not their academic ranking
in the school.
Students who have a Beta average of 90 or above are in good standing and
may participate in all Beta meetings and activities.
Students whose Beta average has fallen below 90 for one quarter are on probation.
They may attend meetings but may not participate in activities that require
missing days in school. The only exception to this is if the student makes
marked improvement in his or her grades to the satisfaction of the Beta sponsors
by the time progress reports are issued. In that case the student may participate
in special activities such as conventions.
Beta students who have fallen below 90 on their Beta average for two consecutive
grading periods (quarters) are suspended. They are no longer members and
may not attend meetings or activities. These students may rejoin Beta if
their averages come back up to satisfactory levels.
