A group of students in Ms. Neally Eastep’s first grade class recently read “Why Polar Bears Like Snow?” during their guided reading time.  Lauderdale County’s Extended Literacy Program provides time for teachers like Ms. Eastep to support students in small groups as their apply the strategies they already know to new text. During guided reading, teachers provide support to students with the ultimate goal being independent reading.
